Charity Missionary Baptist Church, Inc.

Our History

Charity Missionary Baptist Church was organized by our late Pastor Dr. E. L. Carroll on January 1, 1984 at Wyatt's Cafeteria on South Post Oak in plans on organizing a church. All in attendance agreed to the name of Charity.

Our first church services was held at Fairchild Elementary School on Sunday, January 8, 1984. Officers selected were: Choir President - Bro. Joseph Grant; Sunday School Superintendant - the late Dea. Isaac Jamison; Finance Chairman - the late Dea. Lawrence Rhodes; Musician - Sis. Betty Carroll; Mission President - the late Sis. O. M. Kennard; Usher Board President - Bro. Robert Guyen; and Sis. Marsha Grant was elected Church Secretary.

We held service at Fairchild Elementary until the first Sunday in April of 1984, when we then rented a church building at 4508 Brinkley Houston, Texas. Mission was held in the home of Sis. Kennard, Bible Study was held in the home of the late Sis. Katherine Lewis and Choir Rehearsal in the home of our late Pastor Carroll and Sis. Carroll.

God still continued to bless our church. Through the aid of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Carroll knew it was time to move to higher heights. The congregation assembled in the fall of 1988 and through the leadership of our late Pastor, voted to move to which was our location at 5015 South Acres the first Sunday in November of 1988. Our church has made many accomplishments over the years from purchasing pulpit furniture, computer and fax machine. Charity became incorporated in 1993.

Sunday August 14, 2005, we dedicated our piano and organ. January 19, 2007, Dea. Garry Carroll was ordained as deacon. Rev. Larry Johnson & Rev. Richard Winbush joined our congregation the furst Sunday in May of 2009 and was ordained the same year. July of 2009, Rev. Arthur Jeffery was installed as Pastor of the White Oak Baptist Church of Brazoria, Texas.  November of 2014, Rev. Jeffery was installed as Pastor of Main Street Baptist Church of Brenham, Texas. Our late Pastor has installed Rev. Jeffery at both churches. As of October 2010, our late pastor became the 2nd Vice Moderator of Southeast District Association. October 2011, Charity became part of the American Baptist State Convention of Texas.

We lost one member in 2016. On Sunday, January 29, 2017 our late pastor was installed as 1st Vice Moderator of our district. He has held on to this position until is passing on Saturday April 22, 2017 the same day of Fun Day for our District.  After his passing the Church went into a mourning period for three months from Sunday April 23, 2017 until Sunday July 23, 2017. Our Moderator has done a marvelous job in keeping in contact with us within our three month mourning period. After our mourning period was over, our Moderator decided to have a meeting with us on Sunday July 23, 2017 in order for us to move forward as our late pastor would want us to. On Sunday September 10, 2017, Moderator William H. King, III meet with our deacons before the church cast their vote for the new pastor. By unanimous vote of the church, Rev. Arthur Jeffery won the ballot and became our new Pastor.

On Sunday December 3, 2017, Rev. Arthur Jeffery preached is first sermon as pastor of Charity Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Jeffery was installed as our Pastor on Sunday April 08, 2018 - Moderator King delivered the message.

Under the leadership of our current pastor (Rev. Arthur Jeffery), he has started a 5th Sunday Fellowship with 3 churches within our district. Our first 5th Sunday fellowship was held at New Salem Baptist Sunday, July 29, 2018.

We have lost one member (April 2019), but God is still keeping us together.

We are still in the process of building our new church building at 5015 South Acres as of 2019.

Thanks be to God, we have finally made it to our new church building. Our very first service was Watch Night Service on December 31, 2022. What a glorious time we've had.
